This was re recorded for our It Doesn’t Matter Anymore album but this is the original version. We wanted to make something baroque where we were all wearing powdered wigs and bashing away on harpsichords. I’m playing a flute on the chorus. Whenever I went into the live room and played my flute or recorder or suchlike (that’s sounds really dodgy) you could always hear the rest of the band doing their best not to giggle in the headphones and it was always a bit of light relief which ended with “I think we’ll try something else James.” This time, however, it worked. Like pretty much every song on the album it is in a rush to get to the end . I’d started learning the piano and wrote this on the piano. I’d noticed that a lot of Queen songs were in Bb and hey if it was good enough for Freddie it was good enough for us. The nihilistic lyrics are directed to me I think although the only pills I ever took were Ibuprofen for a headache.
